MRCP(UK) Part 2023/03: Update on actions taken

Below are a list of actions we have taken to support candidates since the MRCP(UK) Part 2 2023/03 issue was identified.

One to one meetings with clinicians

We are continuing to arrange online face to face meetings with candidates and senior clinicians in Federation to discuss their individual situations and circumstances.

Dedicated inbox and online form

We have created a dedicated inbox and online form for candidates to email us directly with their queries.

Regular email updates

We have been frequently contacting affected candidates with updates as new information is available.

Dedicated candidate information hub

So that candidates access information more readily and easily, we have created a webpage that hosts all of the links, resources and advice we have provided.

Exam revision support and resources

Up to £500 reimbursement for examination study support is available for each candidate who has applied for, or plans to, resit the Part 2 examination. There is no time limit on claiming this financial support. All affected candidates have been emailed with instructions on how to claim.

Support from the royal colleges

We have extended an invitation to candidates to receive affiliate or associate membership of one or more of the colleges, free of charge, for two years. This will enable candidates to connect with others, including our Resident Doctors Committees, as well as being invited to other events that may be of interest.

Refunds for candidates

All candidates impacted by the results processing error have been contacted to facilitate refunds for the 2023/03 Part 2 exam diet and any subsequent resits they took as a consequence of the result issued at the time.

Additional dates for resitting Part 2 examination in 2025

We are running an extra diet of the examination solely for the impacted candidates on 21 May.  Further diets are also taking place this year on 16 July and 22 October. There are however, no time constraints on when candidates choose to resit the exam.

Wellbeing support

Those who wish to do so, can access the Wellbeing Hub which provides an excellent source of information and guidance on mental health and wellbeing related topics. Candidates also have access to six sessions with a counsellor.

Recorded webinars

So far we have held two recorded live webinars with representatives from The Federation which gave candidates the opportunity to ask questions directly to our Medical Directors.

Commissioning of independent external review

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK has commissioned an independent external review into the problems underlying the issue. Professor John McLachlan will conduct the review. We have also involved the resident doctor committees of the three colleges.

Exam scores updated for candidates whose outcomes were not affected

The scores for the candidates who sat the exam, but whose outcome was not affected by the results processing error, have now been updated in their MyMRCP(UK) accounts.
