Specialist Advisory Committees (SACs) support the development and delivery of postgraduate physician training across the UK.
Each SAC brings together representatives from across the Physician training system to provide national oversight for a specific specialty. You can find more information on our specific specialties here.
For more detailed information please see our JRCPTB SAC Constitution
What SACs do
- advise on specialty training standards and policy
- oversee the quality of training programmes
- contribute to certification and specialist registration decisions
- support the development of curricula and assessments
Why this matters
SACs help ensure that doctors are trained to consistent national standards, supporting high-quality patient care.
Lay representatives sit on SACs to provide a public and patient perspective.
Membership and representation
SACs are made up of representatives from across the UK training system, including Training Programme Directors, Royal Colleges, specialist societies, resident doctor representatives and lay members.
We rely on partner organisations to help keep SAC membership up to date.
If you are a TPD or stakeholder organisation, please notify us of any changes to roles or representation.
Get involved - lay representatives
We welcome expressions of interest from members of the public to join SACs as lay representatives.
