ARCP (annual review of competence progression) external assessor for Federation International IMT programme
The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is seeking to appoint ARCP external assessors for the Federation international IMT programme.

The successful candidates will work with the International Medical Director and Deputy Director in overseeing ARCPs for the Internal Medicine Training programmes in our partner sites outside the UK. The successful applicant will have a key role in working with Federation’s clinical and administrative staff to ensure that the standard of training, curriculum coverage and capability acquisition meets the requirements for the programme and that the ARCPs are run fairly, robustly and at a standard that at least meets UK standards. They will assist the deputy and international medical directors in a cycle of accreditation visits at the partner sites, will analyse the site’s international survey results and participate in an annual review event.
The role will require attendance at international ARCPs once a year and accreditation visits (combined with ARCP visits) and attendance at an annual review event at RCP London. There will be an expectation to support the partner site in ongoing programme development, with the assistance of Federation administrative and clinical staff. Please note that, as we are recruiting a number of external assessors, site allocations will be made according to programme requirements and scheduling. Consequently, an assessor’s first international visit may not take place until late 2027 or early 2028.
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
- Hold the MRCP(UK) or an equivalent postgraduate diploma.
- Maintain a connection to one of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK as either a Fellow in good standing or as a Collegiate Member on the GMC Specialist Register in a current substantive consultant post in the United Kingdom
- Be registered with the GMC and in good standing with a license to practice, or the regulatory equivalent in the country of practice.
- Be working in clinical practice as a physician in a recognised medical specialty in an institution in which doctors in training are employed, or have done so within the past two years.
- Doctors with a GMC license to practice who participate in revalidation, including annual appraisal covering the totality of their practice, and adhere to CPD requirements
- Have knowledge and experience(s) appropriate to this post.
- Have their employer’s permission.
The post is offered on an initial three-year term. Subject to satisfactory performance, as agreed by the International Medical Director, Executive Medical Director, and Federation CEO, the post may be offered for a second term of up to three years by mutual agreement. A two-term appointment is the maximum term that can be served.
