Written exams weekly update: 14 December

Part 1 and Part 2 The Part 2 backup exam ran successfully last week on 8 December.

Part 1 and Part 2

The Part 2 backup exam ran successfully last week on 8 December. We expect to be able to release the results later this month.

The next Part 1 diet will take place on 12 January 2021, as a hybrid of paper and remote online proctored formats. All places for the online exam are now finalised and, as explained in last week's newsletter, for logistical reasons it will not be possible for any further candidates to now change from paper to online. The date for the backup exam for this diet (which will be offered to candidates affected by late written centre cancellations or by technical issues with the online exam) will be announced soon.

The next diet of Part 2 will take place on 23 March 2021. This is again planned to be run in hybrid form (both paper and online formats) in the UK and selected international centres. The application window will open on 11 January.

We are delighted that we will be introducing the remote online proctored format of the Parts 1 and 2 exams to international candidates in the next upcoming diets. Initially this will be in selected centres, where MRCP(UK) is needed for career progression, but in future diets we hope to roll it out more widely.

Specialty Certificate Exams / European Specialty Exams

All SCE / ESE exams for 2021 are currently planned to run as scheduled, in Pearson Vue centres; details for each specialty can be found here.

Dates for SCE / ESE backup exams will be published shortly, as soon as these are finalised and confirmed.

Live Twitter chats

Live Q&A sessions about the written exams have been taking place on our Twitter account on a regular basis. We believe that this has been very successful and has been a very useful way for candidates and MRCP(UK) to communicate during the recent period whilst we have been restarting our exams following the first lockdown. These will continue, and for the future we will be arranging them around the dates of exams. They will take a short break over the Christmas / New Year period, and will return on Tuesday 5 January 2021.
