Second Camera in Remote Online Proctoring (ROP) Examinations

As part of the process of reviewing the policies and procedures governing its examinations, MRCP(UK) will introduce the use of the second camera function for candidates sitting a Remote Online Proctored (ROP) examination (MRCP(UK) Part 1 or Part 2 Written, or a Specialty Certificate Examination). This will not apply to candidates sitting the examination in a centre.

This policy will help to ensure the integrity and security of the examinations and will enhance the experience for candidates.

Candidates will be required to use their phones as a second camera, in addition to their computer webcam. Candidates will need to download the Proctor Exam app (available free of charge from the App or Google Play store) in advance of the examination. Setting up the second camera will form part of the on-boarding process. The phone can then be placed away from the computer in the room where candidates are sitting the examination so the camera can be used to provide the proctor with an additional view of the environment.  Further guidance on setting this up is available here.

The regulations require two of the three monitoring feeds (computer webcam, screenshare, and phone camera) to remain functioning for the duration of each examination paper. In the event that more than one feed fails, and these cannot be restored, this will be reviewed by MRCP(UK) as part of the post-examination quality assurance processes, and a decision will be made about whether the results should stand.
