The independent external review into the problems underlying the September 2023 Part 2 examination conducted by Professor John McLachlan (see earlier news item for details), commenced on 10 March 2025.
The scope of the review is focussing on the following key aspects:
- To consider the impact faced by candidates impacted by this error, and the time lag in which it was discovered
- To understand and describe fully the root cause of the results error that occurred in the Part 2 2023/3 exam diet, and the reasons for the delay in discovering it
- To review the end-to-end examination processes, management and quality assurance to determine areas of risk or concern as well as areas of good practice
- To consider the prior historical error in results processing of the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Clinical Examination (PACES) 2023/03 Diet and its cause
- To make recommendations for improvement to enhance overall compliance, improve operational efficiency, and eliminate future risk
Professor McLachlan is due to report on his findings over the summer as planned.
