Delivery of the Specialty Certificate Examinations (SCEs) is moving to a Remote Online Proctoring platform. Candidates will now be able to sit the SCE from their own home.
The regulations governing this format of the examinations are different from those for in-centre examinations. We ask candidates to familiarise themselves with sections 4.4 to 4.6 of the MRCP(UK) regulations prior to sitting an SCE.
Please pay particular attention to the following points:
- If you are sitting the remote online examination from the same venue as another candidate (e.g. you share a house with them), please inform MRCP(UK) about this ahead of sitting and ensure that you are not sitting the examination in the same room.
- The proctor will provide you with the PIN code for starting the examination.
- Follow the instructions from the proctor prior to starting and during the examination. If you encounter technical problems, you can request assistance via the chat function. Do not switch off your webcam or screenshare feed during the examination.
- Room scans will be conducted at the start and end of the examination. The proctor may also ask candidates to complete a room scan during the examination, so please ensure that you do not have anything not permitted on your desk.
- You are entitled to take one break per paper. This should be no longer than five minutes. You should indicate to the proctor that you are taking a break but do not need to wait for their permission to leave your desk. If you need to take longer or more frequent breaks for medical reasons, please let MRCP(UK) know prior to sitting.
- If you have completed the paper, you can finish and log off. You do not need to wait for the full three-hour duration.
- You are allowed to use scrap paper to take notes.
- Remember you are under examination conditions and should behave accordingly. You can not use a calculator or consult external sources of information (e.g. websites or textbooks) during the examination. Keep your phone away from your desk and do not wear a smartwatch. You are not permitted to take screenshots or use any other method to copy examination content.
