Medical Director for Training & Development

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK is seeking to appoint a Medical Director for Training & Development.

The successful candidate will provide clinical and academic leadership of the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB), including overseeing the delivery of Internal Medicine and Higher Medical Training in 30 specialties in the UK.

Working with the Federation Executive Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer, the Medical Director is responsible for ensuring that academic objectives and standards are met at every stage of the development and delivery of curricula and training. The successful applicant will have a key role in working with Colleges’ and Federation’s clinical and administrative staff to ensure that the standard of training meets the regulatory requirements set out by the General Medical Council.

The appointee will be a Fellow of one of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, with a current licence to practise. The role will require frequent attendance at a variety of meetings within the UK, which are delivered on a hybrid basis. The balance of in-person versus virtual attendance will be up to the successful candidate to decide in consultation with the Executive Medical Director.

The appointee’s employer will be reimbursed for the equivalent of three PAs per week, paid at standard rate (see job description document). The permission of the applicant’s employer must be obtained.

The post is offered on an initial three-year term. Subject to satisfactory performance, as agreed by the EMD, CEO and Federation Board Chair, the post may be offered for a second term of up to three years by mutual agreement. A two-term appointment is the maximum term that can be served.
